River Revival – The intersection of agriculture, water and an emerging outdoor recreation economy
Description:
Drought and diversions were crippling the Upper Colorado River, as well as the ranching and recreation that depended on its flows. But locals managed to overcome these challenges and band together—and even cooperated with Front Range water providers—to realize a large-scale victory for the Colorado’s headwaters. In 2016, the grass-roots effort secured nearly $30 million for two restoration projects that will improve the river’s health along a 30-mile stretch of the Upper Colorado.
